Adventures in Deep Frying

Two days ago Kony got a deep fryer. It is something that came up on slickdeals.net and we figured that it was small enough and we’d enjoy it once it arrived. So, a couple of weeks after he purchased it we had it in our kitchen. Last night was the first time we were able to use it, the first night we had it we found out we didn’t have enough oil. So, since we have a love for chicken, we decided to make it our inaugural meal in the deep fryer.

It has been a long time since I have personally deep fried anything and probably the last time that I did, it was probably chicken. So, off we went getting the eggs, flour, and others seasonings and preparing our chicken for the tasty delicious that would become of them after a little bath in the greatness of hot oil. The deep fryer that we have is kinda small, so it took some time to cook enough chicken for Jamie, Kony, and me. But, it was worth the wait. Coupled with rice and corn, gravy, and biscuits, it was a perfect first meal to break in our deep fryer; the newest addition to our kitchen family.

Accidents Times Two

Yesterday morning I made a trip to South Seattle to pickup up my brand new phone (i-mate SP5). On my way to work I decided to take I-90/I-405/SR-520 to Microsoft since I was closer to I-90 than I was to 520. All was well, until we get to the first tunnel… an accident in my lane. So, that slowed things down a bit, but after that it was clear sailing until I-405.

All I have to say about 405 is that it is crazy. That was some intense traffic on that road and I’m glad I don’t have to drive in it every day, because if I did I think I would go nuts. I mean, I saw a Suburban cross all of the lanes of traffic, in rush hour congestion, in about 50 yards. It was crazy and ridiculous. But, eventually I made it to Microsoft, all crazy driving aside.

At the end of the day, I was heading home on 520 and there was another accident. I couldn’t have been so lucky! And guess what? Yup, it was in my lane this time too. It was nothing serious, just somebody rear ending somebody else, just like in the morning. So, what appeared to be clear sailing was actually slowed down considerably by an accident.

The only reason that I bring it up is because in the few weeks that I’ve been commuting to Redmond, I have only seen one accident thus far. So, it was surprising to me to see two in one day and both happened to be in my lane. Hopefully I can avoid days like this in the future, because accidents aren’t good for anyone.

Eastside Driving Blues

Well, it’s almost 5:30pm and the commute back to Seattle from the Eastside is in full swing on 520. Tonight it is way worse than usual. Traffic is backed up all the way from Microsoft to the bridge. I’ve never seen it like that, ever. So, I’m paying close attention to the information on the WSDOT site and it’s not looking good. Maily because WSDOT just closed the bridge… in the middle of rush hour. Good thing I’m having dinner in Redmond w/ Jai, because it’s going to be a long commute home.

Savings on the Bench

Well, even Microsoft Money knew I was on the bench for the majority of last month:

Gasoline Expenses in February decreased 15%
Parking Expenses in February decreased 91%

However, I predict an increase in gasoline expenses for the upcoming month…
