Quite a Day

Today our project finally moved out to Microsoft. We’re in Building 124 and temporarily in this area called the “Bat Cave”. You can see a picture of it here. It’s this little area with one long conference table that the majority of our 13 person team sat at. I’m working off of a fold up table; the kind you’d see at a family picnic. We had one Ethernet jack for all 13+ of our machines (40MB down! and gigabit switches). So, we were lucky that we had about 3 switches on hand to spread out the ether and extra power strips to share the electric love with our laptops. All in all, it could have been worse, but the two industrial strength air conditioners above us and the large sized water heaters were a sight to see. Continue reading “Quite a Day”

Busy Busy

Sometimes I just run out of time in a day. I do not really know where it goes, but it just manages to disappear. This is mostly because of my new role on a new Microsoft project with the Windows Server group. I am the lead Business Analyst and Test Lead. That puts me in charge of all requirements gathering, and supporting a team to turn those requirements into functional specifications. We have six specifications to write by the second week of November. So, crunch time for me has begun. But, coming from the last gig I was on this is much better than just sitting around all day.

When I get home in the evening there is still stuff that needs to get done. I have found that if I am not making a list of things that I need to do, things fall through the cracks. So, I have recently been using TaDa List again to try to keep myself organized as far as tasks go, but that seems to be hit or miss. But, when I do get tasks into it, I find that I am getting them accomplished. It has been tough though since I just got a new HDTV and I just recently upgraded my cable subscription to take advantage of my TV purchase. So, needless to say that when I am not working at home I am enjoying my purchase… a lot.

Having all that said, I have been healthy for almost a month now (yay!). Starting tomorrow I have a feeling that things will be kicking into high gear for the next 3 to 4 weeks. I look forward to the challenge it will provide, because I know for sure that there will be one there (think: laying train tracks as the train is running full speed down the tracks). All I can do now is execute, not completely loose my mind, and do the best work that I possibly can. Oh, and make sure to continue enjoying my HDTV. That will be a must.

Back to Normal

It’s nice to be back to my normal self. I think I am finally done being sick. I’ve been able to drink and eat normally again and it’s so nice after being sick for about three weeks. So, yea, you could say that I’m more than happy to be back. At any rate, here’s a shot from our weekend camping trip to Deception Pass Park.

Through the Trees

Strep Throat is not Fun

In the never ending saga of me being sick, a new chapter has been written. It is titled “Week 3: Strep Throat”.

Since Labor Day I have basically been sick. If it wasn’t the cold, it was something else, if it wasn’t that, it was the cold. Now, just when I thought I was getting better, it got worse. My throat had been feeling funny since about this time last week and I thought it might just go away. But, after a week of it not going away, it was time to see my third doctor in three weeks.

While doing the strep test in my throat, the doctor said he didn’t even need to wait for the results. I had strep. Yea, it was that bad. So, now I’m on penicillin for the next ten days. I can already feel my throat improving, but I know that it will be a gradual process. I just hope that before my 5 hour meeting at Microsoft on Friday my throat is better than it is now. That, and I don’t want my throat to be a huge issue this weekend when we go camping.

So, here’s to penicillin and hoping that it makes me better in a short amount of time.

Home Sick

I think that this might be the first time I’ve taken sick days since I started working at Avanade. My body is just not up to doing normal tasks today and after spending a couple hours at Microsoft today, I decided that it was best for me to head home and get better. So, I’ve been drinking lots of water and trying to relax in order to help my body heal. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll be back near normal and can actually put in a full working day.
